Robert Pattinson ‘Bel Ami’ Pics Have Fans Gushing
Fans are ecstatic over actor Robert Pattinson’s new look in the film “Bel Ami,” in which Pattinson plays George Duroy, a motivated reporter who climbs the ranks to success by sleeping with several wealthy women throughout 1890’s Paris.
The film is an adaptation of the novel written by Guy de Maupassant, and is set to premiere at the upcoming Berlin Film Festival on Feb. 17, and is rumored to be hitting U.S. theaters on March 2.
In the film, Pattinson abandons his iconic Twilight vampire look for a more dapper role, sporting tuxedos, slicked back hair, and tall top hats typical of 1890’s Parisian garb. Pattinson will be accompanied by female stars Uma Thurman, Christina Ricci, and Kristin Scott Thomas.
According to the “Bel Ami” Facebook page, the film follows Pattinson’s character, Duroy, as he travels “from cockroach ridden garrets to opulent salons, using his wits and powers of seduction to rise from poverty to wealth, from a prostitute’s embrace to passionate trysts with wealthy beauties, in a world where politics and media jostle for influence, where sex is power and celebrity an obsession.”
The film’s Italian distributor, 01 Distributor, released three new stills of the film Feb. 1, showing Pattinson, Ricci, and Scott Thomas in different scenes throughout the movie.
“It is like the complete antithesis of what you normally think period dramas are about. In Paris, everybody was just going nuts. It was like the 1980s. Sex was kind of a weapon and a tool, and it’s odd. There’s something very mercenary about it in a lot of ways,” Robert Pattinson has said of the film, according to Thaindia News.
The attention Pattinson is receiving for the film serves as just another accomplishment on the young actor’s track to success. The 25-year-old started off 2012 by raking #4 on Britain’s Best Dressed Men in 2012.
Both the British Board of Film Classification and the Irish Film Classification Office released their ratings for the film in late January. In the UK, “Bel Ami” received a rating of 15 for containing “strong sex,” while in Ireland it received a rating of 16 for containing “strong sex/Nudity.”
